Who we are
‘The Quintus Partnership’ provides consolidation, marketing, central sales and administration. This unique grower owned and controlled marketing structure has many renowned market leader producers all of whom are specialists within their own sector. ‘The Quintus Partnership’ has a proven track record and offers great opportunities to help retailers drive out costs and bring effective supply solutions within their business. Steered by passionate growers with excellent reputations it delivers, without compromise to quality, the best selling lines collated from one point of contact in a most cost effective manner and in the most direct route possible to customers.
What we do
The group offers a total of 150 core lines from their combined production facilities comprise of 35.13 ha (86.82 acres) of covered structures and 14.7 ha (36.32 acres) of outdoor area. The members currently propagate over 38,000,000 plants each year and collectively sell in excess of 63,000,000 plants accounting for just under 70,000 trolley movements in 2011. 157 full time staff and a further 278 seasonal staff are employed within the businesses.

What we grow
The group is geared to high volume production and with many years of experience gained in producing and perfecting lines, the members can be relied upon to produce top quality and provide excellent service. Its vast product range, covers Hardy Nursery Stock, Conifers, Alpines, Perennials, Pot & Pack Bedding, Soft & Top Fruit, Seasonal Added Value, Seed and Bulb Kits and Plug Plants.
Ashtree Nursery

Begun in 1993, Ash Tree Nursery Ltd is a small family run nursery specialising in niche herbaceous crops.

With approx 5,000 m2 of production area our largest single line is Hardy Ferns. They are now probably the largest UK growers of ferns with an annual production of 130,000 over 80 varieties.

They have also recently added a range of around 30 ‘Premium’ ferns mainly produced from tissue culture, many of which are imported from the USA.

Other specialities are Ornamental Grasses, Heuchera, Pulmonaria, Helleborus, ‘Princess Lily’ Alstroemeria, Hosta, Dahlia, hardy Cyclamen and Viola odorata.

Pot sizes range from 10.5cm to 3 litre

All their product are supported by their own bespoke range of care labels to allow consistent presentation at the point of sale. They can also usually supply quality images for POS use if required.

They send out a weekly availability list by either fax or email, and pride themselves in their ability to respond to orders at short notice if necessary.

Delivery can be arranged by dedicated haulier if required.

They are happy to discuss individual customer’s requirements and can contract grow to specific needs.

Bell Brothers Nurseries Limited is a market leader in the supply of Plants for the Home and Garden. They grow a phenomenal range of quality plants, serving a large customer base delivering nationwide.

Bell Brothers Nurseries Limited was founded in early 1961 by Bernard Bell. He began by growing tomato and vegetable plants, selling direct to wholesalers, farmers and other growers. Bell Brothers Nurseries produces a huge range of products selling to Garden Centres, High Street Stores and Supermarkets all over the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Bell Brothers Nurseries are still very much a family run firm. Bernard and his wife Margaret are its founder directors, with sons Robert and Jonathan being managing and production directors respectively.

The company today continues to expand. 2012 saw the completion of another two acres of state-of-the-art growing facilities along with a new outlet for Cash and Carry customers. They pride ourselves on the quality of their products and the way they are produced, along with the people that work with them and the systems they have in place to ensure that they deliver the high level of quality and service their customers know they can rely on.

Blofield Nurseries

Blofield Nurseries is a family owned and run company. Founded in the early 1950’s it is now into its 3rd generation. They specialise in large quantities of Azalea japonicas, Camellias, Pieris and Dwarf / Hybrid / Yak Rhododendrons.

Blofield Nurseries produces about a million rooted cuttings, 55000 P13 liners, 450,000 P9 liners and 50,000 2 litre shrubs. The majority of production is grown to contract for customers across Europe. The Nursery is based in Norfolk on one site. There is over 4 acres of glasshouses, 1 acre for propagation; the rest for liner and finished plant production.

They can honestly say that their plants are UK grown, as they propagate them all themselves.

D&R Simmons

D & R Simmons is a long established firm of some 80 years and operates from a site of over 3 hectares.

The company has been a specialist supplier to the multiple sector for over the last 30 years and today concentrates in all types of flower bulbs, as well as supplying the finest of Christmas trees, graded, packed, and presented to meet customer specifications.

The nursery has been run by Peter Ruysen for over twenty-five years, with eleven full time staff and up to forty extra seasonal workers.

D & R Simmons is the consolidation centre for The Quintus Partnership.

Gedney Bulb Company

Gedney Bulb Company was established in 1981 and has developed into a specialist wholesale grower of bulbs and herbaceous plants with a recent introduction of alpine and rockery plants.

The nursery grows over a million perennials each year and supplies Garden Centres, Local Authorities and Landscape Contractors as well as the nursery trade. Their lists are extensive and plants are available throughout the year.

A highly efficient nursery with a high tech potting system, it grows hardy over wintered plants, graded for quality and labelled prior to dispatch. ”Point of Sale’ is available to promote plants at the point of retail sales.

Golden Grove Nursery

Golden Grove Nursery is a specialist conifer nursery growing a wide range of dwarf conifers, hedging plants, grafted pines and piceas.

Top quality plants for immediate impulse sales are available throughout the year.

A bespoke range of Point of Sale Bed Cards has been designed for Garden Centres along with Promotional Materials and Labelling.

Cleaned, top dressed plants, is standard practice, giving excellent presentation and highlights the plant foliage.

Promotional lines such as themed Conifer Four Pack are offered, each plant individually labelled and displayed with an attractive, colourful carry handle.

Harrington Nurseries

Over 30 years experience, spanning two generations, have made Dominic Harrington Nurseries one of the top specialist Clematis growers in the country.

Modern production techniques and facilities help to ensure consistent, excellent quality plants at competitive prices.

Dominic Harrington Nurseries use their expertise and put a lot of time and effort, into producing Clematis that are in bud or flower at the peak selling periods, which gives their product a great impulse sales appeal. Over 90% of Clematis are sent out either in bud or flower.

Although Dominic Harrington Nurseries are best known for their Clematis, they also grow Hydrangea petiolaris and a good range of Lonicera.

Kingfisher Nurseries

Kingfisher Nursery has been established for over 35 years and has developed into one of the country’s leading heather specialists.  They produce around 800,000 heathers annually in a range of varieties and pot sizes for supply to Garden Centres, multiples and landscapers.

All plants are grown outdoors to ensure hardiness, flowerbuds and long shelf life.  They are clearly distinguishable from other heathers with their unique colour coded trays, picture labels and posters, these make a very attractive display and ensure ease of customer choice.

They offer a weekly delivery service on Danish trolleys.  Minimum delivery is just one trolley.  Alternatively their cash and carry area has a range of heathers for collecting customers.  Pre-pricing/barcoding available.  Weekly looking good/availability lists are published on their website www.kingfishernursery.co.uk.

Established in 2008 as a sister company to Bell Brother’s Nurseries in Benington near Boston, Oakdale Products is a major importer and manufacturer of wild bird care and gardening products.

Their product portfolio ranges from all aspects of bird food/feeders and nest boxes through to garden accessories and essentials.

Customers range from large national multiple retailers both out of town and on the high street to independent garden centres, cash and carries and pet shops.

Buying products from the far east is a key strength to the business, as well as various strong relationships with key UK manufacturers.

Opperman Plants Limited started in 1998 with just one acre. It has now grown to 16 acres and specializes in many different crops, producing 5.5 million pot plants a year. It is a family run business with each member of the family specializing in different departments of the company. Mike and Jenny Opperman are the directors.

The company prides itself on exploring niche and novel concepts and bringing them to the market. For example they produce a range of different Hydrangea, Christmas Cactus, Jasmine and an extensive range of Perennials.

The company is very customer focused, producing plants to a given specification. They also offer an extensive range of added value products, almost all of which are grown on their nursery.

The company is all the while developing new ideas for development or cost efficiency. They have just installed a 1 megawatt biomass boiler to help reduce our dependency on oil.

Tamar Nurseries

Tamar Nurseries has been established since 1979, Tamar has grown into one of the country’s leading nurseries growing well over one million plants each year, consisting of shrubs, herbaceous, perennials, forestry and an extensive range of trees in various sizes and formations - bare root, rootballed, and containerised.

Tamar is based on the Norfolk, Cambridgeshire border and is located in the heart of the rich arable fenland area. The nursery is forty-six acres, of which four acres are covered growing areas. Equipped with the latest technology for irrigation, drainage, I.P.M. application and voted by DEFRA to be one of the most environmentally friendly nurseries in the UK.

Woods Nurseries was established in 1996 by Chris and Liz Woods. The business is based in Swineshead, South Lincolnshire and extends to 3.5 acres of glass and a modern pack house, offices and staff facility.

They specialise in the growing of 9 cm and 1 litre hardy shrubs, climbers and fruit plants.  These are supplied to a range of outlets, both as liners for potting on and as pre packed plants for sale by multiples and other retail outlets.  Woods Nurseries has diversified its fruit production to include 3 litre trellis trained plants. 

They have an annual over 1 million young fruit plants in our bottom heated propagation unit.  They are members of various breeding programmes, and so are able to offer up to date modern varieties as well as tried and tested old favourites.

Wyeplants Ltd was established in January 1978 as growers of field grown flower crops and has evolved over the years to become one of the largest growers of climbing plants and clematis in the United Kingdom.

The nursery site extends to just under 10 acres of covered growing area over two sites - comprising of mostly 4 metre Venlo glasshouses.

The vast majority of plants are grown in 9cm and 1 ltr pots and pre-packed for the wholesale and retail trade. Their aim is to produce a quality product in excess of the industry norm for this size of plant.

Although specialising in climbing plants they also produce evergreen shrubs, perennials, fuchsias and pot lilies.

Wyeplants Ltd are a member of the British Ornamental Plant Producers (BOPP) and are accredited to Eurepgap standards. They also audit themselves against the ETI code. Their use of reduced peat compost and the reduction of waste are constantly under review.
